Deftones. What a great band. For our vinyl project I listened (well, read transcripts) of multiple podcasts interviewing different designers. One happened to be Frank Maddocks, the designer for Deftones. He has been since the release of White Pony. Before I was a designer I was an artist. I will always strive to connect my craft with my artwork, but I never forget to have no purpose every so often. Especially in school.

Now that I got my quote, I had to get some pencil to paper and flesh out some ideas. This part of the process is a ton of fun for me. When you think there's no connection, you're wrong. You just have to keep digging.

This design was to pay homage to Maddock's use of photography in his poster and album cover designs. Due to the medium, a photo could not be used, so I chose to draw a mosquito in Illustrator.

The whole process of applying the vinyl to the window was a group effort. For a single application it took three of us about 15 minutes from start to finish with a lot of held breaths. One wrong move and the vinyl is ripped and can't be fixed.
